Josh Silverman, R.I.P.

The whole Dromedary family extends its most sincere condolences to the friends and family of Josh Silverman of Shirk Circus.

Josh created beautiful, emotional music with both Shirk Circus and The Dark Brothers. The two Shirk Circus records on the Bar/None label stand out as two of the greatest documents of 1990s indie rock, and the band’s reunion performance in October was a shining example of how great indie rock can be. He was a brilliant songwriter and a monster guitar player that could play tastefully in the background or knock you out with a blistering solo.

We are honored to have had the opportunity to know him, and wish him well on his journey.

We’ll miss you, Josh.

Dromedary signs Penguins Kill Polar Bears – FREE DOWNLOAD!

Over the past two years, the Scottish post-rock quartet Penguins Kill Polar Bears have taken their home country by storm, releasing a critically-hailed EP and developing a reputation as a devastating live act, touring the UK supporting the likes of The Twilight Sad, British Sea Power, and more. The Scottish music blog “Sound Surrounds”:http://soundsurrounds.blogspot.com/2010/12/end-of-year-awards-thingbest-live.html named them one of 2010’s best live bands, and the band’s debut EP, _Dawn_, was the #2 seller of 2010 at the Scottish indie music store Avalanche Records.

Now, we’re thrilled to add the band to the Dromedary family, making them our first international signing. We’re looking forward to introducing the band to North American indie rock fans by releasing their forthcoming EP, _Vessels & Veins_, this coming March. Available on CD and digital download, the North American version of the EP will contain six fantastic songs – four newly recorded masterpieces, plus two remixed and remastered tracks from the band’s 2010 debut.

We absolutely flipped when we heard this band, and we hope you’ll do the same.

To get a taste of _Vessels & Veins_, simply “click here to join our email list”:http://dromedaryrecords.fanbridge.com/ – we’ll give you a *FREE* download of the EP’s lead track, “Lungs.”

Mommyheads Press!

_Innocent_ Words has chimed in with a dynamite review of The Mommyheads’ _Finest Specimens_ record. Check it out, and if you haven’t gotten your copy yet, there’s still time to order before the winter holidays!

“You’d be forgiven if you have never heard of The Mommyheads. A definitive example of a cult band, the San Francisco, by way of New York, indie band had a handful of small label releases throughout the ’90s, one shot at the majors with a Geffen release, then disbanded shortly after in 1998.

During their time together, the band did manage to collect a slew of positive reviews from critics and help lay the ground work for other bands inspired by their original sound. Many of those songs can be found on the 21-track release _Finest Specimens_, a greatest hits collection of sorts for a talented band that never really enjoyed the mass appear the first time around.

A fantastic starting point for those who’ve never heard of the band and a must-have for all Mommyhead disciples, _Finest Specimens_ include remastered songs, previously unreleased live recordings and one new song. The band reunited in 2008 to put out a new record, so now is your chance to finally catch up with what you likely missed out on in the ’90s.”
