OUT NOW – Dew Claw: “E.L.F.”

Back in the early 90s, the bands Hypnolovewheel and King Missile were in heavy rotation in the world of college radio, the former due to the excellent songwriting and the latter due to the witty observations and the absolutely ripping band behind John S. Hall. A few years ago we became friendly with Chris Xefos, a San Francisco-based musician who played bass and keyboards on those major label King Missile records (including their MTV hits). At first we were acquainted due to our mutual admiration of The Mommyheads, but eventually we began keeping up to speed on Chris’ new projects because he’s a creative dude (and a wizard in the studio).

Chris introduced us to Stephen Hunking, formerly of Hypnolovewheel, and we helped the band release a single last summer – right before the band came out East and played our Dromfest ’24. After meeting them, and seeing them live, we had to put out their album.

Almost a year later we’re proud to introduce you to E.L.F. – the band’s latest LP. The Fire Note says “Dew Claw turns personal pain into a universal lifeline—vulnerable, vibrant, and unforgettable.” It’s a heck of an LP, recalling The Move, ELO, Flaming Lips, and of course Hypnolovewheel. A cohesive album despite every song having its own unique flavor, this is the kind of record that will stay on your turntable for a good chunk of the spring.
